Privacy Policy

1. Who operates Geo Camera

Geo Camera by OpenKAAL is a product of the OpenKaal technology project. OpenKaal is operated and maintained by JbigDeaL, a proprietorship operated by Jay Chandra Kar. Privacy and support enquiries can be sent to jay@jbigdeal.org.

2. Information the app may process

Depending on the features you choose to use, the app may process:

• Camera photos and videos captured by the user.
• Microphone audio when the user records video with audio.
• Precise or approximate device location, including latitude, longitude, altitude where available, accuracy, provider and capture time, when location recording is enabled.
• Profile/footer information entered by the user, such as organization name, user name and designation.
• Local capture records that associate the media file with capture time and location information.

3. How this information is used

The app uses this information to capture media, maintain a local capture record, write available GPS metadata to JPEG photos, display capture details, generate evidence footers, create map previews, resolve an optional approximate address, and prepare processed copies for sharing or saving to the phone gallery.

4. Local storage and media exports

Original capture files and capture records are stored locally on the device in app storage. When the user chooses Save to Gallery, the app creates a processed final copy and saves it through Android MediaStore. Processed photos are saved under Pictures/Geo Camera by OpenKAAL and processed videos under Movies/Geo Camera by OpenKAAL.

5. Sharing

The app does not automatically share captured media. If the user chooses Share, the app prepares the requested processed copy and passes it to Android's system share interface. The destination service selected by the user is governed by that service's own privacy practices.

6. Map and approximate-address services

When a processed footer includes a map, the app may request map tiles from OpenStreetMap. Tile requests are derived from the recorded capture coordinates. If the user enables approximate address display, the app may use the Android device/platform geocoding service to resolve the recorded coordinates into a human-readable address. These functions can require network access, and the external service may receive technical request information needed to provide the result.

OpenStreetMap's own policies apply to its map services. Android/platform geocoding behavior may vary by device and service provider.

7. No OpenKaal account and no advertising SDK

The current Geo Camera app does not require users to create an OpenKaal account. The current app does not include an advertising SDK and does not use captured media for advertising.

8. Permissions

The app may request Camera, Microphone and Location permissions. On older Android versions it may also request the storage permission required by that Android version to save media to the public gallery. Users can deny or revoke permissions through Android settings, although some capture features will then be unavailable.

9. Location accuracy

Location readings are supplied by Android and the device's available location providers. The app records the provider reported by the device (for example GPS or FUSED) and does not represent every location reading as pure satellite GPS. Approximate addresses are derived from coordinates and may not exactly match the physical address.

10. Retention and deletion

Media and capture records remain on the user's device until the user deletes them, uninstalls the app, clears app data, or otherwise removes the files through Android. Copies saved to the public phone gallery must be deleted separately from the gallery if the user no longer wants them.

11. Children's privacy

Geo Camera is a general-purpose field documentation tool intended to be operated by responsible users. The app does not create child profiles or intentionally collect personal information from children through an OpenKaal online account. Organizations using the app are responsible for obtaining any permissions required for the people or subjects they photograph or record.

12. Security and user responsibility

The app is designed to keep original captures and records on the device. Users should protect their device, review media before sharing it, and avoid publishing sensitive location information when it is not appropriate.

13. Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated when the app's features, data practices or external services change. The effective date at the top of this page will be updated when material changes are made.
